Bettors are split on taking Aaron Rodgers as a rare home underdog on Monday Night Football
In Aaron Rodgers’ first game with the New York Jets, facing the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, sportsbooks are mixed on what team they’ll be rooting for — although they’ll likely be rooting for the game to stay UNDER the total of 44.5 points.
As of Monday morning, 64% of the bets and 60% of the money were on the Bills -2 at DraftKings Sportsbook. At BetMGM, the story was similar with 68% of bets and 69% of total dollars wagered on the Bills to cover the spread.
DraftKings also reported taking a $40,000 wager on the Bills moneyline at -135 odds.
But action was split at other sportsbooks, with some needing the Bills to cover and others the Jets.
“Good two-way action, a little more on the Bills but mostly when we were at Buffalo -1,” Chris Andrews, South Point sportsbook director, said via text.
“We need the Bills as of right now,” Zachary Lucas, retail sportsbook director at Twin Spires, explained via text. “Sixty percent of tickets on Bills, but 68% of the money on the Jets.”
Caesars Sportsbook director of trading also told me on Sunday night that the book would need the Bills on Monday night.
In prime-time games, the public generally likes to bet OVER the total (currently at 44.5). That has been the case at sportsbooks, although it’s also been evenly bet. At BetMGM, the bets were 50-50 on the total, although 66% of the handle was on the UNDER. At DraftKings, 62% of the bets were on the OVER, but 54% of the handle on the UNDER.
“We took a $30,000 wager on OVER 45.5,” Thomas Gable, sportsbook director at The Borgata in New Jersey, said. “Mostly been Jets money to cover, as expected. I expect that to pick up [Monday].”
Aaron Rodgers will be a home underdog for only the ninth time in his career on Monday night. He went 7-1 ATS and 5-2-1 straight up as a home ‘dog in 15 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
