George Santos' lawyer took part in Jan. 6 march on Capitol: report
As Rep. George Santos (R-NY) faces off against several federal charges, at his side is attorney Joseph Murray. Mother Jones reported Thursday that he is among those seen on archived footage of the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection.
Santos himself was filmed that day in the VIP section of the Ellipse, where Donald Trump delivered his speech encouraging his supporters to march on the Capitol.
Newly uncovered photos also show Murray among those in the angry mob storming Capitol grounds, according to reporters Jacqueline Sweet and David Corn at Mother Jones.
The reporters tracked the movement of Murray and Angela Ng, the office manager for Murray's firm, on the day. They were seen on footage to be among those who marched from the Ellipse at the White House to the Capitol, the report said. Both of them are retired New York police officers, the report added.
Ng is listed as a staffer in Santos' New York district office staffer doing "constituent services."
Images show that Ng and Murray marched past the barriers police were using that rioters pushed down, the report said. They continued up to the building on the north side, watching and filming others breaking into the doors.
"Earlier, as Murray and Ng marched toward the Capitol, Murray seemingly spoke with an unidentified rioter dubbed “Insider2330” by the group of independent researchers known as the Sedition Hunters, who have been studying video and photos of the rioters to identify the marauders," Mother Jones explained.
"Insider2330 was one of the first people to enter the Capitol, according to a member of the Sedition Hunters group. He and Murray apparently talked after Insider2330 had left the Capitol building. The Sedition Hunters, who have shared their research with reporters and the FBI, provided some of the footage of Murray to Mother Jones."
The report goes on to cite some of his tweets as Jan. 6 approached. One amplified the slogan “Fight for Trump.” It was found via the Internet Archive. "Those who do not stand up for our republic will be voted out of office!” he also tweeted.
Earlier in Dec. 2020, Murray tweeted, “I am going to ask President Trump to appoint me as Attorney General or US Attorney and I will clean up all of this corruption in government that is destroying our republic!” After Trump was removed from the Twitter website, Murray deleted his account.
