I’m a traveller & here’s what I really think of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding TV show – it’s the worst thing to happen to us
A TRAVELLER girl has revealed what she really thinks of the TV show My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
Charlotte Ann took to TikTok to share her thoughts, and why she thinks it is the worst thing to happen to her culture.
Charlotte Ann revealed what she really thought of the show – and said it made them look ‘like clowns’[/caption] The show was a hit across the UK but Charlotte revealed it painted her community in a bad light[/caption]Charlotte often shares her experience living in the gypsy community and didn’t shy away from telling followers her thoughts on the show.
She said: “Let’s get into it.
“I think Gypsy Wedding is one of the worst things that ever happened to travelers and gypsies.
“Because basically, all Big Fat Gypsy Wedding was for was to spread more stereotypes and more stigma at our people.
“It didn’t help us in any way.
“It made us look like clowns.”
Charlotte’s scathing review of the hit TV show, which followed traveller and gypsy women around as they prepared for their wedding day didn’t end there.
The traveller claimed the show’s creators had a plan of content for the show and executed dit perfectly by using ‘naive young women.’
She continued: “The creators of Big Fat Gypsy Wedding had a mission and they had a plan of content, for they created that show, and they executed it perfectly by using naive, young children to be front and center of their programme and editing it to basically fit their agenda and their narrative.”
Charlotte added that it never showed the good work her community does for charities or the hard jobs they often work in.
But the young woman is hoping to challenge that as she revealed she will be taking part in a documentary soon discussing all of the positive parts of the traveller community that she claims get overlooked.
She added: “So, no, I don’t agree with Gypsy weddings.
“I don’t agree with any programme that I’ve seen so far about travellers and gypsies on the telly.
“I think it’s just another way to make a show of us and it’s another way to belittle us.”
The video posted to her account @charlotteann71 has since gone viral with over 30k views and 2,800 likes.
People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section of the post, many agreeing with Charlotte’s opinion.
One person wrote: “Agreed.”
Another commented: “I could listen to you talk about your culture all day. So eloquent and insightful. Thank you.”
“Spot on Charlotte Ann,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “You’re such a great ambassador for your community.”
“Well said,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “They certainly did, I completely agree with you.”
