Bettors got absolutely smashed by Duke's NCAA tournament loss to Tennessee
Bettors did not fare well after No. 4 Tennessee took down No. 5 Duke in the second round of the 2023 men’s NCAA tournament on Saturday.
As the Volunteers topped the Blue Devils, 65-52, the public took a hammering with so many bettors putting their faith in Duke to leave the floor successful.
At BetMGM, 85 percent of the bets and 87 percent of the money were on Duke (-3.5) to win. Also, 60 percent of bets and 65 percent of the money wagered were on the Duke (-180) moneyline.
At DraftKings, 66 percent of the money wagered was on Duke (-3.5) and 81 percent of the bets of the spread had the Blue Devils. For the moneyline, it was 77 percent of the money wagered and 75 percent of the bets.
Naturally, the sharp bettors rode with Tennessee and won big.
Interesting nugget one bookmaker just texted me on Duke-Tennessee:
"Betting action on this Duke-Tennessee game is great. Public is all over Duke. Ticket count completely skewed towards them Two sharp groups pounding Tennessee with us, though."

NOT a good start for the public today

Adding to the public’s betting woes was the fact that Duke scored the lowest amount of points (52) that the team ever has in the men’s NCAA tournament.

All in all, it was not a good day of betting for those who didn’t put their faith in the Vols to come out on top. At least there are more games to bet on?
