President gives nod to Jill Biden's Super Bowl attendance in SOTU
President Biden during his State of the Union address on Tuesday joked about first lady Jill Biden, an avowed Philadelphia Eagles fan, heading to the Super Bowl on Sunday.
"By the way, Chief Justice, I may need a court order," Biden quipped to Supreme Court Justice John Roberts as he began his address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday.
"She gets to go to the game... next week," Biden continued, seemingly referring to his wife, Jill Biden, who he recognized in his remarks just seconds earlier.
"I have to stay home," Biden said to a few laughs. "Gotta work something out here," he joked.
The first lady is a well-known mega-fan of her hometown NFL team, Eagles. Last month, she cheered on the Eagles as they beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.
The White House had not indicated whether Jill Biden would attend the Super Bowl on Sunday, when the Eagles are poised to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Arizona.
A spokeswoman for the first lady didn't immediately return ITK's request for comment about the president's remarks.
Our first lady and second gentlemen, good to see you guys up there.
