Sports briefs: Dominican lacrosse programs remain unbeaten
Goalie Brandon Stuckey made 19 saves as the Dominican University men’s lacrosse program defeated USC 14-9 in its inaugural game on Sunday.
Kenny Seiler added four goals and three assists for the Penguins (1-0) while Brennan Krebs had three goals and three assists. Former San Marin High standout Bijan Nahidi had three assists and scored once.
The Dominican women’s lacrosse program ran its record to 4-0 with a pair of dominant victories over the weekend. The Penguins defeated Oregon State 18-2 on Saturday then blasted Arizona 17-1 on Sunday.
College softball
Dominican fell 2-0 to Western Washington on Sunday despite a strong start by pitcher Shelby Keltner. The Penguins went 2-3 at the Concordia Kickoff Classic over the weekend while Keltner was named to the all-tournament team after striking out 29 hitters, posting a 0.91 earned-run-average and picking up a pair of wins.
Men’s basketball
Marin Catholic grad Noah Deitch came off the bench Saturday to score 18 points in Lake Forest’s 95-55 victory over Beloit in a Midwest Conference matchup. The Foresters (10-11, 7-5), fourth in the MWC, are scheduled to play at rival Lawrence on Wednesday.

Sunday’s print edition of the IJ mentioned that the San Marin High girls JV basketball team won the league title. San Marin and Marin Catholic both went 15-1 in league, splitting the season series, and were co-champions of the MCAL.
