25-year-old falls into open pit, dies in Rajkot
A 25-year-old man died after falling into a pit that was being dug to lay the foundation for an overbridge near Raiya Telephone Exchange in Rajkot on Friday. The deceased was identified as Harsh Davada. Police said that Harsh, who was riding his motorcycle, died due to injury in the head caused by the iron bars inside the pit. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) ordered an inquiry as there were no barricades or caution notice put near the pit. The contractor who was assigned the work had just put up a plastic barricade tape around the pit. According to the police, the construction agency engaged by RMC had dug up the pit near the overbridge. Harsh while riding a bike lost control and fell into the pit and died on the spot. He was working with a private firm and was the only child of his parents. Police added that action will be taken against the agency if found negligent.
