Nadine Dorries to host her own show – and Boris is her first guest
Nadine Dorries will host a new weekly news show and her first guest will be former prime minister Boris Johnson.
Her new programme, called ‘Friday Night with Nadine’, will air on TalkTV each Friday at 8pm and will include news, politics, sports and culture.
Her interview with Mr Johnson will be aired during her first show on February 3, with Ms Dorries hinting she’ll be pressing him on a whole range of issues.
The MP and former culture secretary said said: ‘As someone who’s never been afraid to speak their mind, I’m delighted to be joining the team at TalkTV for Friday Night with Nadine, where I’ll be putting my 23-year political career and experiences at the despatch box to good use.
‘Boris Johnson continues to dominate so much of the political narrative since his departure from No.10. Now’s the time to find out what he really thinks about a whole range of pressing issues.’
When Ms Dorries stood in for Piers Morgan last October, she repeatedly made mistakes when reading from the autocue.
She bumbled her way through an introduction when she co-hosted with Evening Standard editor Emily Sheffield and admitted: ‘I messed up.’
At the time many viewers used the opportunity to criticise her, but she responded to explain she has dyslexia.
She wrote in a tweet: ‘I have dyslexia, which means that when I speak I often run my words together and say things that sound like the words I’m trying to say.
‘Dyslexia affects people differently. For me, it affects my speech more than my writing, which is why I find solace in writing.’
Richard Wallace, Head of TV, News Broadcasting at TalkTV, said Ms Dorries has a ‘unique voice’.
He continued: ‘She has had a seat at the top table of British politics during extraordinary times; knows all the key players and has true insight into how the corridors of power actually work.
‘And, as a former nurse, she’s one of very few politicians to have held down a proper job and worried about paying the bills, so our audience will relish her take.’
The announcement follows the revelation fellow Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg will also be getting his own chat show on rival TV channel GB News.
