Inception Racing Confirm Full-Season IMSA GTD Effort
2022 Michelin Endurance GTD Champions Inception Racing announced today that their 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship entry has been accepted with the team returning to the IMSA grid competing in the full 11-race calendar.
The Optimum Motorsport-run team made their series debut back in Petit Le Mans in 2021, with a further seven events under their belts in 2022 including a second-place finish in the summer’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen.
Although having not won an IMSA endurance race throughout the season, the #70 crew led at vital stages of the Rolex 24 at Daytona to claim points towards their title bid. The team also capitalised on strategy across the four endurance events which saw them claim the Michelin Endurance title before the chequered flag at Petit Le Mans this October.
Brendan Iribe, Ollie Millroy and Frederik Schandorff return to Daytona next January for a second consecutive year, with McLaren Factory Driver, Marvin Kirchhöfer joining the squad for the first time to complete the 24h line-up in the teams’ #70 McLaren 720S GT3.
Similarly, to their 2022 season, Brendan and Frederik will take on IMSA’s Sprint race duties, with Ollie joining them for the four endurance rounds: Rolex 24 at Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Six Hours of the Glen and Petit Le Mans.
The 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship gets underway on Friday 20 January with Free Practice 1, with the 61 st running of the event on Saturday 28 at 13:40.
Bas Leinders, Team Manager
“Although we didn’t compete in all the IMSA races this year, we had some really strong results within the endurance events such as the podium at Watkins Glen and at Petit Le Mans.
“We’re now looking forward to participating in the full calendar to continue our success from this year and contest for the overall title.”
