David Weiss’ inside-the-park homer highlights Hong Kong 10-3 victory over India

<p>David Weiss scored a run from his inside-the-park home run,
helping Hong Kong record its first victory in the II WBSC U-12 Softball World
Cup by beating India 10-3 on Thursday at Jin-Long Stadium.</p>

<p>Gabriel Wan and Ching Chan each scored three runs in the
game, the former also contributing two hits and an RBI single and the latter adding
a hit; while Chavin, Rohith Karnan and Kanishka earned India’s three runs in
the game.</p>

<p>After Matt Chui held India scoreless at the top of the first inning, Hong Kong opened their half of the inning with a lot of grit and speed. Wan scored the first run after he singled and stole second base, followed by Ching Chan and Chun Ting Chan who added two runs after the latter tripled to right field and the error by the Indian right fielder. Weiss’ inside-the-park homer to centre field topped Hong Kong’s great start to lead 4-0.</p>

<p>Both sides scored 1-2 in three successive innings. Swarnam Chavin scored India’s first run in the second inning, while Wan and Ching Chan each scored their second run in the game for the score of 6-1. Rohith Karnan started off with a walk and eventually completed a run for India, while Weiss and Colin Cheung reached the home plate on an illegal pitch and a ground out by Yan Yu Ng that extended the Hong Kong lead to 8-2.</p>

<p>With two outs at top of the fourth, India found its way to the home plate as Kanishka progressed through a series of walks and a fielder’s choice to trail at 8-3, but Hong Kong responded with two more runs by Wan and Ching Chan to maintain the seven-run lead, until the fifth inning closed on a 10-3 scoreline in favour of the East Asian squad.</p>
