4 Women and 2 Men Arrested on Charges of Running Away from Home
Four women and two men, according to local security officials in the Herat province of northwest Afghanistan, were arrested in two different cases on charges of running away from home.
According to a news release issued by the Herat Police Chief on Wednesday, November 30, two young girls and a woman have been arrested in Herat province’s police district 6.
The woman, according to the news release, sheltered the two young girls who were planning to escape to Iran with a man.
The arrest of a girl and a little boy in the Pashtun Zarghun district of the province on accusations of running away from home was also reported in the news release from the Herat Police Chief.
The people who were arrested are currently in police custody, and judicial authorities will soon receive the files for adjudication.
According to the findings of rights organizations, up to 70% of incidents of “running away” from home are related to escaping forced marriage or domestic abuse.
The phrase “running away from home” describes a young woman who leaves her house with a man, usually with the intention of marriage without parental consent.
