Best hangover tweets this morning after England beat Wales at World Cup
England may have won the footy last night, but fans are losing the battle against hangovers this morning.
There are a lot of sore heads at work after the team ended Wales’ World Cup dreams.
Pubs were packed until the early hours as English crowds were sent into party mode following a 3-0 result.
Commuters reported trains being noticeably empty on Wednesday morning, suggesting a fair few people had chosen to ‘work’ from home or had taken the day off.
One Twitter user joked that ‘early morning brain fog’ was widespread in England.
Another admitted they knew they were facing a 3am alarm but had stayed up to watch regardless.
Meanwhile, someone else pointed out that his Welsh colleague was noticeably ‘off sick’.
‘Welsh guy in the office is off sick today. So emailing him abuse instead. Up the England’, he wrote.
England soared through to the next stage thanks to a goal from Manchester City star Phil Foden and a brace from Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Footage showed drinks being thrown in the air by jubilant supporters during the ‘Battle of Britain’ match.
Meanwhile ‘devastated’ Welsh fans were left with heads in hands with some leaving fan parks before the final whistle.
But the country’s national team have been praised for their efforts after reaching the World Cup for the first time in 64 years.
The Prince and Princess of Wales – who remained neutral yesterday – wrote on Twitter: ‘Be very proud. First World Cup since ’58.
‘This tournament you’ve played with heart and pride. Looking forward to seeing you at Euro 2024!’
The Welsh national team wrote on Twitter: ‘We have had to wait 64 years for this moment to tell the world who we are.
‘Our language. Our culture. Our history. Ein Wal Goch. We’ve done that. Together. Cymru. Ar Ben y Byd.’
England will face Senegal in the knockout stage of the competition on Sunday, after topping the group.
