Matt Hancock has revealed his opinions about his Tory colleagues on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The disgraced former health secretary, 44, told campmates he thinks Liz Truss was ‘in a way unlucky’ but declared her political career ‘over’.

He also revealed he sent a text to Boris Johnson when he attempted to grab his old job, warning the former PM it was ‘not his time’.

His comments come after he was forced to resign for breaking his own social distancing rules, and is being criticised for abandoning his constituents during a cost-of-living crisis to star on a reality TV show.

The candid admissions kicked off when the contestants started a discussion about being oblivious to the news in the UK.

Presenter and property expert Scarlette Douglas said: ‘I wonder if Rishi’s still in power’, to which Mr Hancock replied: ‘Yeah, he will be’.

After being asked ‘what went wrong’ with Ms Truss by soap star Sue Cleaver, Mr Hancock replied: ‘In a way, they were unlucky, in that globally interest rates all went up, just at the time that they were also… bringing in a financial statement where you say, “We’re going to do all these expensive things and we’re not going to say how we’re going to pay for them”.’

Cleaver, 59, queried: ‘Where does that leave her now?’

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - OCTOBER 25: The out-going British Prime Minister Liz Truss makes her final address to the nation in Downing Street, London, Britain, October, 25, 2022. Liz Truss will travel to Buckingham Palace to formally offer her resignation to King Charles III. On Friday, October 21, 2022, Liz Truss resigned as Prime Minister, just 44 days after taking over from Boris Johnson and on Monday October, 24, 2022, Rishi Sunak became the next Conservative Party Leader and Britain's youngest Prime Minister. Mr Hancock responded: ‘Her political career is over. No ambiguity at all.’

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, the former top politician added: ‘There I was sat in the comfy red chair and I felt like I was on Mastermind being asked all these questions.’

Broadcaster Charlene White also joined in on quizzing the MP for West Suffolk, asking: ‘Why do you think Tory Party members went for the less experienced…’

Offering his thoughts openly, Mr Hancock said he believed it was ‘all about how Boris got kicked out, it was all about people seeing Rishi as wielding the knife against Boris’.

Ms White, 42, asked: ‘So they decided to, one could argue, punish the entire country, by putting someone in place who was less experienced?’

‘That implies a malign motive, which isn’t fair. But they definitely put the disloyalty to Boris as a negative, as a bigger factor than’, Mr Hancock told her.

Comedian Seann Walsh, who was a late arrival to the jungle along with Mr Hancock, then asked: ‘Were you a Boris die-hard?’

The politician responded: ‘Look, I was very supportive of him, but it was time. When it was time to go, it was time to go.’

The prospect of a second Johnson premiership seemed somewhat likely when he flew back to the UK from a holiday shortly after Ms Truss’s resignation.

But he finally admitted he could not unite the party after being involved in countless scandals.

Ms White asked Mr Hancock: ‘When he flew back from his holiday in the Caribbean, what was your first thought?’

He said: ’I texted him and I said, “You know I think you’re wonderful but it’s not your time. The best thing for the country is that you should back Rishi and that we should get him in post as soon as possible”.’

Elsewhere on the show, Boy George shared his reservations about Mr Hancock, admitting he ‘finds him very hard to warm to’.

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, the Culture Club singer, 61, said: ‘I think some people just get very excited by politicians and power.

‘And with him sitting on the throne and everything, I think that some people are kind of, I feel, overdoing it a bit.’

While speaking to soap star Sue Cleaver, he continued: ‘I find him very hard to warm to. Everyone else I feel connected to, without having to know the ins and outs of who they are.’
