Rosemère blossoms in gold

The Town of Rosemère is the winner in the Grand Champions category. The city received 5 Flowers – Gold and a Special Mention for Poetry Memorial Garden at the Communities in Bloom National & International Awards Ceremony in Victoria, British Columbia on October 22. The Town of Rosemère was in competition against Castlegar B.C. and Coquitlam B.C. The community also received an exceptional merit award for the Cef Tree Management award.
The evaluation, carried out by volunteer judges during the summer, looks at all sectors of community activity – businesses and institutions, residents, including volunteer actions and is based on the following criteria: cleanliness, environmental action, heritage protection, tree management, landscape and plant and flower arrangements.
Here is what our volunteer judges Berta Briggs and Larry Hall wrote following their visit:
“Rosemère is a green oasis among other municipalities, just north of Montreal. This beautifully tree-lined town describes itself as proud and green. About 20 years ago, a non-profit corporation acquired the somewhat antiquated Hamilton House and its extensive grounds. Over the years, the house has been restored to become a much-loved cultural center and, each year, special gardens enrich the grounds. This year, the Memorial Poetry Garden was inaugurated. This garden was conceived, designed and built by a committee of volunteers who wanted to have a place to quietly remember the special people in their lives who have passed away. Every aspect of the garden has a meaning: the river and the rose are depicted, and each tree, shrub and perennial has been chosen for a specific reason. The space is very peaceful, and you can feel the love and respect that has gone into it. The Memorial Poetry Garden is a significant addition to the grounds of Hamilton House, bringing beauty and hope to hundreds of visitors each day.”
In the current context of climate change and environmental concerns, communities participating in the Communities in flowers can be proud of their efforts, which provide concrete and decisive solutions to environmental issues for all society.
