Signing ceremony of the Rosemère city guestbook
Two athletes in the spotlight
On October 15, swordsman Olivier Desrosiers and diver Matt Cullen were invited to sign the Town of Rosemère’s guestbook. The tribute paid to them made it possible to underline the sporting excellence of these young Rosemère residents who had the honour, among several student-athletes, of receiving significant scholarships awarded by the Foundation for Athletic Excellence in Quebec. The ceremony took place in the company of relatives of the athletes, at the glass roof of the library.
Olivier Desrosiers is an 18 year old athlete who practices fencing. Last March, he received an Academic Excellence Scholarship worth $2,000 from the 2022 National Bank Scholarship Program, with the Fondation de l’athlon d’excellence du Québec. During his young career as an athlete, he received several mentions. He was Canadian junior champion and won the senior bronze medal in May 2022. He placed 15th out of 186 athletes in the junior category at the North American Cup in San Jose, California in January 2022. He was a junior and senior silver medalist at the Canadian Championships in December 2021. In training, Olivier is said to be rigorous, that he has good technique and a very complete game, as well as being very dynamic. Olivier wishes to be part of Canada’s junior and senior teams for the competitions that will take place in 2022-2023.
Diver Matt Cullen is 16 years old. Last February, he received a $4,000 scholarship from the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence, in connection with the Bonneville 808 Challenge, in support of academic and athletic success. Matt also stands out with an impressive career, punctuated by several mentions. Since the age of 10, he has been Canadian junior champion on several occasions (in the 3m and in the 10m platform). He was a gold medalist in the 10m, as well as the 10m synchro in the 16-18 age group at the Pan American Junior Championships when he was 15 years old. At the same age, he finished 4th in Olympic qualifying. Matt is a determined athlete and always has a positive attitude. He is recognized for his legendary calm even in situations of great stress. His mental strength is his greatest asset.
“We are honored to count these young athletes among our important signatories. We will continue to follow their journey with great interest. Rosemère has had the chance to see many sports celebrities grow up on its territory and this privilege continues thanks to them”, said mayor Eric Westram.
