Le Mans Garage 56 NASCAR Camaro Tests At VIR
After a test at Road Atlanta in August, the Garage 56 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 effort that is set to contest the centenary Le Mans 24 Hours next June has been on track again, this time at Virginia International Raceway with a brand new Camaro test car.
Mike Rockenfeller was again on driving duty yesterday aboard the Hendrick Motorsports-built car as the team continues its build-up to Le Mans.
The test was supported by a full Hendrick crew including vice president of competition Chad Knaus and Greg Ives, former crew chief of Hendrick Motorsports’ #48 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The car, based around the current ‘Next Gen’ NASCAR concept is set to be the latest car to enter Le Mans under the ACO’s ‘Innovative Car’ banner to highlight new technologies and concepts.
There is, as yet, no confirmation of whether the Camaro will incorporate hybrid technology in the powertrain, which would be a first with a NASCAR in competition.
