Peter Crouch has said that he expects Harry Kane to be fresher for this World Cup, given that the tournament is being held mid-season rather than in the summer.
England reached the semifinal of the 2018 World Cup in Russia before losing out in the final on penalties to Italy in last summer’s European Championship.
So, Gareth Southgate’s men will be hoping to go one step further and clinch the title this time around and there is no doubt that their hopes of doing so rest on Kane firing, given how reliant the Three Lions are on their captain to score goals.
The Tottenham man has been in terrific form so far this season, having found the back of the net 13 times across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
Kane started every single game for Spurs in the first part of the season, with Antonio Conte even admitting after the Carabao Cup loss to Nottingham Forest last week that the striker was ‘really really tired’ (talkSPORT).
Crouch admitted that the striker’s heavy workload so far this season might be a concern for England.
The former Tottenham and England striker told Warner Bros.Discovery (as relayed by EuroSport) about Kane: “It’s a difficult one, he has to play every single game. Antonio Conte coming out and saying he was tired and then playing him in the Carabao Cup seemed a bit strange.
“It was an opportunity for them to rest him, although Tottenham haven’t won much silverware so that’s potentially a competition they would have liked to have gone far in – obviously, that didn’t work out.
“I always think, going into Christmas time, it’s a period where we’re used to playing so many games, so for a World Cup to be there rather than the end of the season, you would think Harry Kane will be a little bit fresher – having said that, he plays a lot of games.”
Spurs Web Opinion
When Conte was talking about Kane being tired, I think the Italian was referring to the striker not having sufficient time to recover between matches rather than accumulated muscle fatigue. With the 29-year-old having a week’s rest ahead of the World Cup, he will be fully fit and raring to go against Iran on November 21.
