You’re charging your iPhone wrong – how to unlock speedy ‘fast-charge’ trick
SPEEDY iPhone charging all comes down to the cable you’re using – and you may be using the wrong one.
Believe it or not, there are various bits of charging kit and they’re not necessarily the same.
Lightning and USB-C are the fast way to go[/caption]So if you’re short for time and need a quick battery boost, make sure you’re using the best possible cable and plug.
With the right type, you can fast charge anything from iPhone 8 and later.
According to Apple, you can charge up to 50 per cent battery in around 30 minutes.
But it only works that fast if you’re using a USB-C to Lightning cable and the correct plug to go with it.

USB-C is a connector system widely available these days, which means you’ll need a plug piece that fits it.
USB-C is not to be confused with USB, the much older type.
USB is still found on the end of many charging cables – the bit that goes in the plug.
Apple sells the fast plug, which provides 20W with a USB-C ending, on its website.
There’s also a 35W one which costs quite a bit more – but bear in mind that even the very latest iPhones can only take 29W at the moment, so check the maximum your device allows to make sure you’re not overspending on a plug you can’t get the full potential out of.
You can go for any comparable USB-C power adapter, as long as it supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD).
The crucial detail to take away is that standard USB charging is not fast.

And it’s worth noting, wireless charging isn’t as fast as USB-C either.
So if you want the very quickest juice up, go for USB-C to Lightning cable with the correct plug.
