[Women's Basketball] Jackson named KCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University sophomore forward Taylor Jackson has earned her first KCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week award for this season and already the fourth nod of overall of her career, the league office announced today (Nov. 14).
"Taylor can be such a weapon on defense," said Friends women's basketball head coach Dean Jaderston. "She uses her length so well and rarely gets faked out of position. Our team is learning how to use her rim protection to create pressure on the perimeter. We'll continue to see her make an impact all year long."
Jackson had another big week as a difference maker along the interior for the Falcons.
The Houston, Texas native averaged five defensive rebounds and 4.5 blocks in the Falcons' two games over the weekend, highlighted by a seven defensive board and six block effort in an 80-59 rout over Oklahoma City University Saturday (Nov. 12).
Last season's KCAC Freshman of the Year and third-team all-conference performer, Jackson set the Falcons' modern era single-season blocks record (96) in the 2021-22 campaign and is now tops in the KCAC this season in blocks per game (3.6) and fourth in defensive rebounds per game (6.0).
Jackson and the Falcons are off to a 4-1 start this season and will open up conference action at home Wednesday evening (Nov. 16) vs. Bethel College. Tip-off is set for 6 pm inside the Garvey Center.
