Hans Niemann goes through strict anti-cheating control at the US Chess Championship
The US Chess Championship 2022 commenced today in Saint Louis. Fourteen of the strongest chess players in America battle for the national title and $60,000 in a classical round-robin event, including Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian, Wesley So and Hans Niemann who has been in the limelight for the last couple of weeks.
Hans Niemann is playing against 15-year-old Christopher Yoo in the first round of the event and before the start of the round went through strict anti-cheating control. The Deputy Chief Arbiter of the event, Chris Bird, thoroughly checked Hans Niemann with the anti-cheating device. See the video below
Hans Niemann passed the same anti-cheating scan in the Saint Louis Chess club a few weeks ago, during the Sinquefield Cup 2022. After 19-year-old American grandmaster Hans Niemann defeated Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, the World Chess Champion decided to withdraw from the event. Rumors that Magnus Carlsen suspected Niemann was cheating started spreading over social medias and the “Carlsen – Niemann” controversy is the top news in mass medias ever since. Hans Niemann confessed cheating online in random games on chess.com, but he claimed that he never cheated over-the-board. Two weeks later, Magnus refused to play against Hans Niemann at the Julius Baer Generation Cup and resigned his game after only two played moves. After weeks of silence, Magnus Carlsen published the official statement publicly accusing Niemann of cheating more than he has publicly admitted.
