Antonio Conte gives details on how he could line up with a 3-5-2
Antonio Conte has confirmed that his Tottenham squad is set up to play one of two systems, the regular 3-4-3 or the 3-5-2 many fans have been calling out for.
Spurs started the match against Leicester with a 3-4-3 and while they were impressive in attack, they were also outnumbered in the engine room. When Yves Bissouma came off the bench to switch to a 3-5-2, Tottenham arguably looked more in control of the game.
Conte has confirmed that Bissouma is the key man for the system, naming him as the third player who could come in to support Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
He also said that the two up front could be rotated between either Heung-min Son and Harry Kane or Richarlison and Harry Kane.
Conte did not mention where Dejan Kulusevski would fit into the 3-5-2 equation when fit, although he does have experience at right-wing-back, in a number ten role, and even in a front two for Sweden.
Conte said (Football London): “With this type of players and this squad we can play with these two systems, 3-4-3 and a 3-5-2.
“Also Bissouma who is a good player who can play with the two midfielders and the two strikers can be Sonny and Kane or Richarlison and Kane.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I do suspect that Conte will switch between a 3-5-2 and a 3-4-3 over the coming weeks depending on the opposition. He needs to rotate players and that may be easier with a switch of formation. Perhaps the dominant possession football of Brighton could warrant reinforcement in midfield after they gave Liverpool so many problems.
