Meghan ‘thought she’d be Beyoncé of UK thanks to royal kudos but hated Palace rules’, insiders claim
MEGHAN Markle thought she’d be the Beyoncé of the UK thanks to royal kudos – but in reality hated Palace rules, according to insiders.
Valentine Low’s new book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown details explosive claims over how the Duchess of Sussex had misconstrued what life as a royal would be like.
In an extract, published by The Times, a former aide said the “kudos” that came with being so closely linked to the monarchy also came with restrictions in other areas.
They said: “I think Meghan thought she was going to be the Beyoncé of the UK.
“Being part of the royal family would give her that kudos.
“Whereas what she discovered was that there were so many rules that were so ridiculous that she couldn’t even do the things that she could do as a private individual, which is tough.

“It just required the decision-makers to sit around a table and say, ‘OK, what are we going to do about this? What do you need to feel better? And what can we give?’ “
The couple left the UK during their bitter Megxit split with the Firm in 2020.
The believed Harry and Megan’s decision to walk away from royal duties formed a crisis handled with “incompetence beyond belief”.
The book states there could possibly have been nothing to prevent the eventual clash between the Royal Family and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they tried to walk away.

Another palace source said handling the divide was “an impossible task.
They said: “I think in Meghan and the household, you had two worlds that had no experience of each other, had no way to relate to each other, had no way to comprehend each other.
“And Meghan was never going to fit in that model and that model was never going to tolerate the Meghan who Meghan wanted to be.
“So I think that it was inevitable that they would not be able to work together.
“I don’t think there’s anything Edward could have done about that that other members of the royal family would have accepted.”
It comes amid claims Markle told Harry she would break up with him if he didn’t announce publicly they were dating, a new book has claimed.
According to an extract from Low’s book as Harry was facing “hordes of journalists” keen to dig into his new girlfriend’s life, Harry “became determined to protect” her.
But at the same time, it is claimed Meghan told him that if he didn’t announce how serious they were, she was out.
The book claims: “A source said: ‘She was saying, “If you don’t put out a statement confirming I’m your girlfriend, I’m going to break up with you”. Harry was in a panic’.
The claim is one of a series of scathing revelations made about Meghan in Low’s story, airing a number of claims from insiders and former aides inside his latest analysis of life behind palace walls.
He wrote that while Meghan worked to be portrayed publicly in a positive light during the couple’s tour of Australia in 2018, behind the scenes “it was a different story“.
The book states: “Although she enjoyed the attention, Meghan failed to understand the point of all those walkabouts, shaking hands with countless strangers.
“According to several members of staff, she was heard to say on at least one occasion, ‘I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this’.”

Low also stated that ahead of the couple’s engagement, she attempted to make her arrival known among the palace staff.
The book says: “In the spring of 2017, more than six months before the couple were engaged, she told one of Harry’s advisers: ‘I think we both know I’m going to be one of your bosses soon’.”
