Wyll Stanway.
Goalkeeper Wyll Stanway left Chester FC on Friday to join FC United Of Manchester on a 28-day loan.
This is the right move for all parties, as I feel incredibly sorry for Wyll given he has been sitting in the stands for every match this season. It has been no fault of his own because he has barely put a foot wrong for us. However, we are in an obscure scenario where we have two top goalkeepers in him and Harry Tyrer, and given Harry is on loan from Everton I presume they have a say in whether he starts for us, otherwise they would want him to be elsewhere. Tyrer was actually meant to go out on loan to Tranmere Rovers, but it fell through at the final hurdle, hence he is here now. The problem we have, however, is even though Tyrer is such a good goalkeeper, it is very unlikely that he will be here next season once his loan spell ends, whereas Stanway is actually contracted with us yet he isn’t playing. Therefore, I think the best thing that can happen now is for Wyll to stay out on loan for the rest of the season in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division so he can get match fitness, then hopefully he can sign on again next Summer with a guarantee that he will be first choice. At the same time we can make the most out of Tyrer who has really impressed me so far. It’s inevitable Tyrer will be gone by the end of the season, but we can’t afford to lose both, so it is right that Wyll gets some game time for the time being. It must be a really difficult situation for Calum McIntyre, but in this instance I think he’s right that both ‘keepers need to be playing (albeit for different clubs).
Good luck Wyll!
