[Women's Soccer] Larosee's late score lifts Women's Soccer Falcons to win at Avila
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a match that was scoreless for nearly 89 minutes, it would require someone to step up in clutch minutes and breakthrough with a goal to emerge victorious. To the surprise of no one, that someone turned out to be Keily Larosee (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.) that delivered the game-winning goal for the Friends University Falcons for a 1-0 victory over the Avila University Eagles in KCAC action in Kansas City, Mo.
Larosee found the back of the net by beating the defense for a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper and score with just 1:23 left on the clock.
Now with a team-leading seven goals on the season, Larosee had threatened minutes before that when she got past the defense and put up a shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Kenan Ebel.
"We were glad to get the result in the end with Keily (Larosee) scoring with 1 minute and 23 seconds left in the game," said Friends women's soccer head coach Brent Hobson. "It was a nail-biter but we controlled the game and are happy to start conference play going 2-0."
After Avila launched four of the first five shot-attempts, the Falcons took over and recorded the next seven shots on the way to holding an 18-7 advantage overall in shot-attempts and a 7-2 edge in shots-on-goal.
Maria Smyth (JR/Fairplay, S.C.) made a pair of saves for the Falcons (5-2, 2-0 KCAC) in the shutout win, with Ebel stopping six shots for Avila (1-4-3, 1-1 KCAC).
The Falcons will next be at Bethel College for a Saturday morning (Sept. 24) kickoff at 11 am in North Newton, Kan.
