Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are yet to begin negotiations over a new deal with Harry Kane’s representatives.
Kane’s current deal with Spurs runs out in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and The Athletic reported last month that there is now increasing confidence among the Tottenham hierarchy that the striker would be open to signing a new deal at the club.
However, reports from Germany are continuing to link the England captain with a move to Bayern Munich next summer.
Florian Plettenberg told Sky Sports (Football Daily) last week that he is ‘totally convinced’ that Kane will be a ‘very very hot topic’ at Bayern during next summer’s transfer window.
The journalist further revealed that the Bundesliga club had already made contact with the 29-year-old’s representatives regarding a move to the Allianz Arena.
However, Fabrizio Romano subsequently assuaged Spurs fans’ fears by telling CaughtOffside that despite Bayern’s interest in Kane, the North London club are ‘relaxed’ about the player’s future.
Gold has now predicted that ‘surely’ it will not be long before the Lilywhites try to open talks with their talismanic striker over a potential new contract.
When asked if Tottenham have initiated talks over a new deal for Kane, the journalist responded in a Q&A on Football.London: “Nothing yet I’m afraid. Spurs haven’t kicked those off as of this point but surely it won’t be long.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I would be surprised if Tottenham do not initiate talks with Kane’s entourage over a new deal before the World Cup. If Spurs continue their good start to the season and do not slip up over the next month or so, I believe that the 29-year-old would be tempted to commit his future to the club.
