San Jose: Man dies after fall from Valley Medical Center hospital room
SAN JOSE — A man died after falling from a Valley Medical Center hospital room late Wednesday, authorities said.
Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel were alerted at 8:57 p.m. to a report of a person down outside the exterior of the hospital located on South Bascom Avenue, according to sheriff spokesman Deputy Russell Davis.
The injured person, identified only as a man, was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene, Davis said.
He added that an initial investigation found that the man appeared to have jumped out of a window, and that were no immediate signs of foul play. A witness to the aftermath told this news organization that the man fell from the fourth floor of the building.
The county Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office had not formally identified the man as of Thursday. A spokesperson for the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System declined to comment in response to an inquiry Thursday, citing federal health privacy laws.
Additional details, including the circumstances of the fall, remain under investigation by the sheriff’s office, Davis said.
