Man trying to stop flash flooding with a brush is our hero
Downpours have wreaked havoc across London today, with heavy rain flooding down streets and even into tube stations.
Thunder rumbled across the city before the heavens opened this afternoon.
One man has been spotted valiantly tackling the downpours armed with a broom.
A video shared from Kings Cross Station shows water gushing down the street outside the commuter hub.
In a bid to clear a drain, a man could be seen in the footage furiously trying to clear the water with a broom.
Cars splash water towards the man as he tries in vain to fight the storm.
‘Bro’s sweeping the ocean,’ one Twitter user commented.
Another added: ‘I can only assume that man with the broom is keeping the drain clear of leaves. What a hero!’
Elsewhere in London, water has poured into London Victoria station as rain intensifies.
Video showed soggy commuters gingerly negotiating a large puddle – and non-watertight gates being shut by station staff.
The downpours are set to delay commuters throughout the city today with delays on the tube lines and on the roads.
Elsewhere in the country, heavy rain has flooded roads and submerged cars as storms worsen.
It follows weeks of little to no rain which have left the ground rock hard and unable to absorb water.
Today,a hospital urged patients only to attend A&E if their need is ‘urgent or life-threatening’ after the building was flooded.
Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, said that heavy rainfall meant ‘water was able to get into a few parts of the building’.
The hospital said in a Facebook post that colleagues were ‘hard at work’ fixing the problem.
On Tuesday, the hospital trust even posted a video of a car driving through a flooded car park.
