I was quoted £800 to do my stairs so did it myself for a fraction of the price… the results speak for themselves
SHE was quoted £800 to redo her stairs.
But instead of shelling out almost £1,000 for the revamp job, Lauren Holdsworth decided to take on the job herself – and saved herself a tonne of money in the process.
She used a Dunelm runner down the middle of the staircase for a modern and chic look[/caption]She then removed all the carpet, sanded down each stair and painted the outside of each side of the steps white.
Once that was done, she installed a beige and black runner down the middle of the staircase – giving it a chic, modern look.
“When a company quotes £800 so you buy everything for under £200 and do it yourself!” she wrote over the clip, adding the hashtags #homerenovation #DIY #stairs #illdoitmyself #fineilldoitmyself #fyp.

Many people were quick to praise Lauren for the job, with one writing: “I love this! Been debating trying this myself, where did you get the runner from? I’d love something similar.”
Lauren replied that she’d picked up the runner from Dunelm.
“Good job I’d defo of lost my patience and ripped it up and gone to pub,” another added.
While others said she should have started with the walls, which were un-plastered and unpainted.

However, Lauren hit back: “The walls not getting plastered until next year & I couldn’t go without carpet on the stairs because they were too slippery without it.”
She added in response to another critic: “I’ll just simply have to cover the stairs before carrying out the work so no ideal but its what’s best for my situation.”
“Don’t know why everyone is being so negative, absolutely fair play for doing it yourself!” someone else said, defending Lauren.
