Lou Macari criticises Man Utd's pursuit of 27yo in shocking MUTV rant
Former Manchester United midfielder and current MUTV pundit Lou Macari has criticised United’s pursuit of Adrien Rabiot live on their in-house television studio.
The Red Devils are trying to secure the signing of the France international as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his midfield.
John Murtough recently met with Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique to discuss the personal agreement.
The game against Brighton yet again showed that United need a world-class defensive midfielder.
It is hard to see that Rabiot’s presence will make Ten Hag’s midfield more robust.
This is the reason why fans have mixed feelings regarding his arrival.
Lou Macari was on MUTV as a studio guest, alongside presenter Mark Sullivan to dissect the Dutchman’s pre-match media conference.
He played 145 times for the Red Devils between 1973 and 1984. He won three trophies and assisted the club to reach the Second Division championship.
When asked about the potential arrival of the 27-year-old, Macari presented a brutally honest take rather than talking only about the positives.
He said via The Telegraph, “I’d never really heard of him [Rabiot].”
“I can’t see them [Rabiot’s qualities]. Qualities you can see in black and white, or this case, him not scoring goals.
“Football clubs spend millions and millions of pounds to put scouts out there across Europe to keep an eye on players.
“So if you were going to be a Manchester United scout and asked him [about a player], he would be able to give you a real breakdown of them.
“No one has made a move for this fella. Why?
“Why aren’t the rest of the clubs in this country, that have done well in the transfer market, why aren’t Man City or Liverpool interested?
“You always need a good player. I just get a bad feeling about the guy.”
Embarrassment for Manchester United coming from every corner
The decline of the Premier League giants started after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
It’s been a decade but the club are still trying to find a correct roadmap.
Leave about winning, they have not been in a position to even fight for the Premier League title.
The arrival of Erik ten Hag did feel like a breath of fresh air. However, the club has failed to back him up in the transfer window.
United have made three signings, but their squad is arguably much weaker than what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had at the start of the previous campaign.
A few days back they were rumoured to be interested in signing 33-year-old forward Marko Arnautovic.
Only a fierce backlash from supporters forced them to end their pursuit.
Since the beginning of the window, United are trying to sign Frenkie de Jong, but have failed to lure the Barcelona midfielder.
The fact that they do not offer Champions League football, makes them a less attractive place.
Lou Macari’s live rant on MUTV perfectly depicts how bad things have become at the Theatre of Dreams.
