49ers’ running back Elijah Mitchell to miss preseason with reported hamstring issue
SANTA CLARA — Lead running back Elijah Mitchell was one of 20 players who didn’t suit up for the 49ers Friday night in their preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers and it appears he won’t be seen again until Week 1 of the regular season.
Mitchell, who rushed for a franchise rookie record 963 yards last season while battling shoulder, rib and knee injuries as well as a concussion, has a hamstring issue, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The hope is Mitchell will be able to face the Chicago Bears in Week 1.
Mitchell did not carry the ball a second time after his first attempt during practice at training camp Wednesday.
That would also mean Mitchell will miss both joint practices this week on the road against the Minnesota Vikings.
