RedHawks stay hot, extend winning streak against Explorers

Fargo-Moorhead 11, Sioux City 6    Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (11-3) extend their win-streak to 8 against the Sioux City Explorers (3-10).

The RedHawks never trailed, scoring 3 runs in the 2nd, 6 runs in the 5th, and 2 runs in the 9th. For Fargo-Moorhead, 3B Drew Ward (3-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBIs) cranked a 2-run homer, batting in 1B Manuel Boscan (2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBIs). Both SS Sam Dexter (4-for-5, 1 RBI) and LF Nick Novak (2-for-4) accounted for 3 runs in the win. On the mound for the RedHawks, SP Bret Helton (5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 SO) and RP Davis Feldman (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 SO) hold the Explorers’ bats to minimal damage, combining for 9 strikeouts and 6 runs.

For Sioux City, 2B Chase Harris went 3-for-5 with 2 R and 1 RBI and CF Danny Amaral struck gold half of the time at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 1 run. The RedHawks look to sweep the Explorers tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at Mercy Field.

Milwaukee 10, Gary SouthShore 3    Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen (8-6) spend little time taking care of the Gary SouthShore RailCats (5-10).

The Milkmen looked like a whole different team compared to game 1 of the weekend series, scoring 8 of their 10 runs in the first four innings. For the Milkmen, LF Will Kengor went 4-for-5 with 1 R and 3 RBIs and C Drew Kelly went 3-for-4 with 2 R. Also for Milwaukee, 3B Logan Trowbridge went 2-for-4 with 2 R and 1 RBI and RF Bryan Torres batted 2-for-5 with 1 R and 1 RBI against the RailCats bullpen.

For Gary SouthShore, SS Daniel Lingua had another stellar night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and the two newest faces of the squad – 1B Sam Abbot (2-for-4, 1 RBI) and LF Zach Racusin (2-for-3, 2 R) – also contributed heavily for the RailCats bats. The RailCats and Milkmen close out the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Field.

Chicago 4, Cleburne, 1    Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (8-6) bounce back from close loss Friday night, top the Cleburne Railroaders (3-11)

The Railroaders struck first, scoring their only run in the first inning from a sac fly from CF Zach Nehrir (0-for-2, 1 RBI). After that, the Dogs answered by scoring 4 unanswered runs; 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and 1 in the 7th. For the Dogs, 2B Grant Kay went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and C Ryan Lidge went 1-for-1 with 1 R and 1 RBI. On the mound, RP James Reeves keeps his perfect ERA intact, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2 hits.

For the Railroaders, SP Trevor Simms had an impressive outing, pitching 5 innings and allowing 4 hits and 3 runs – all earned – with 8 strikeouts. The Chicago Dogs and Cleburne Railroaders will face off one more time Sunday, May 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the Depot at Cleburne Station.

Lincoln 5, Winnipeg 2     Box Score

Buddy Baumann of the Lincoln Saltdogs made franchise history with 15 strikeouts as the Saltdogs rallied back in the 8th inning to win 5-2. 

Game two of the series started just as game one did with Winnipeg taking an early lead off the bat of the American Association’s home run leader 1B David Washington (1 R, 1 RBIS) but Lincoln was able to respond with an RBI double by DH Garett Delano (0 R, 1 RBI) in the bottom half of the 2nd. Buddy Baumann was dealing all night long only giving up 2 runs and a single-game franchise record 15 strikeouts, but it would be the Goldeyes holding a one-run advantage heading into the 8th. 2B Josh Altmann (0 R, 0 RBI) got the 8th started by reaching first on an error, then a walk sandwiched by two base hits drove in the tying run thanks to 1B Matt Goodheart (2 R, 1 RBI). Later in the inning, CF Hunter Clanin (0 R, 2 RBIs) picked up two more RBIs as he doubled down the left-field line to put the ‘Dogs up for good. Altmann would later score on a wild pitch to make the lead 5-2. The Saltdogs are winners of four straight games, meanwhile, Winnipeg is on a four-game skid. Game three of the weekend set is tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. 

Kane County 12, Lake Country 5   Box Score

The Kane County Cougars cruised their way to a dominant road win on Saturday night in Kane County thanks to a six-run 2nd inning. 

The Dockhounds and the Cougars were two teams off to good starts heading into Saturday night, and Lake Country had no intentions of slowing down as they tacked on three runs in the top of the 1st thanks to a two-run shot by SS Gabriel Noriega (1 R, 2 RBIs) and a solo homer thanks to 1B Gio Brusa (1 R, 2 RBIs). Kane County would later respond in the second by plating two runs, and then again in the 3rd hanging six more runs on the board. CF Jimmy Kerrigan (3 R, 2 RBIs), 1B Josh Rolette (3 R, 2 RBIs) , and SS Alexis Pantoja (2 R, 3 RBIs)  all went deep as part of that monster 6th that essentially ended the game. The Dockhounds would grab two more runs but would never catch up to the Cougars. Kane County is in first place in the American Association East division with a record of 9-5, and Lake Country is tied with the Milwaukee Milkmen for second, both with records of 8-6. Game three of this series starts at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Kansas City 22, Sioux Falls 1  Box Score

The defending champion Kansas City Monarchs smothered the Canaries with 22 runs on Saturday night, picking up win number nine.

The Monarchs’ offense was red-hot Saturday night as they jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the fourth inning behind the batting power of RF Jan Hernandez (3 R, 6 RPI) who tripled in the five-run inning, and an RBI single 1B Casey Gillaspie (1 R 3  RBIs).  Kansas City would later score seven runs in the bottom of the 7th to really put this game out of reach and earn a dominant win over the Canaries.  The Monarchs are now 9-6 on the season, third place in the American Association West, the Canaries drop to 5-10 and sit at fifth in the American Association West.
