Rihanna and A$AP Rocky kept baby’s birth a secret for a week

Given all the paparazzi that probably pursue Rihanna and A$AP Rocky anytime they leave the protection of one of their Los Angeles-area compounds, it’s surprising that the birth of their first child, a baby boy, somehow eluded them for nearly a week.

It’s was reported Thursday that Rihanna, 34, gave birth to their son on May 13. TMZ first reported the birth, and People magazine confirmed the news, but neither outlet offered many details.

TMZ only said that the birth happened somewhere in Los Angeles, but didn’t say if it took place at a hospital. If Rihanna had a hospital birth, it looks like staff were extremely serious about enforcing the federal HIPAA patient privacy law and avoiding any media leaks.

A source close to the couple told People that they are at home in Los Angeles with the baby.

“Rihanna is doing well,” the source said. “They are very excited to be parents. Rihanna is already a wonderful mom,” says the source.

The couple was spotted at one of RIhanna’s favorite celebrity hotspots, the Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica,four days before the baby’s reported birth.

The Los Angeles Times added that the child’s name has not been released.

After surprising fans in late January with news of Rihanna’s pregnancy, the couple has made headlines for a number of reasons. The Fenty Beauty founder has made waves with her revealing but fashionably daring approach to maternity wear, notably in her Vogue cover shoot. The nine-time Grammy winner’s pregnant figure also was erected at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Rocky also has made headlines, but for not very pleasant reasons. He was arrested at Los Angles International Airport last month by a swarm of officers who surrounded him as he departed an airplane at a private terminal. He was led away in handcuffs and subsequently charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a November incident. Los Angeles police say he shot at an acquaintance during a confrontation in Hollywood. Police also searched Rocky’s home near West Hollywood, reportedly looking for the gun used in the assault.

This would be the second time in less than three years that Rocky has been arrested in connection with a street fight.

In 2019, Rocky’s assault case in Sweden exploded into an international cause célèbre that saw Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Jada Pinkett Smith and other stars, as well as members of congress, urging then-President Donald Trump and the State Department to push for his release.

According to reports, he and his entourage got into a fight with a couple men who they say had followed them for blocks. Rocky was held in custody for a month without formal charges being filed, as Swedish authorities investigated the case. Trump eventually got involved after hearing from Kanye West, tweeting that he would personally call Sweden’s “very talented” prime minister in an attempt to free Rocky, who later was found guilty of assault and given a conditional release.
