San Jose: Motorcyclist dies in crash on Highway 101
SAN JOSE — A man on a motorcycle died in a crash early Friday morning on Highway 101, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 1:13 a.m. on southbound 101 in the area of Highway 87, said CHP officer Ross Lee.
A 47-year-old man from San Jose on a 2008 Harley Davidson lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the center median on the highway, Lee said. A 40-year-old female passenger said he had been traveling “at a high rate of speed.”
Both were ejected from the motorcycle and fell onto the roadway, according to police. The man was pronounced died after emergency personnel arrived on scene.
The woman had “significant injuries” from the crash and was taken to a hospital.
Police don’t believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
All lanes of southbound 101 were closed and traffic was diverted to Highway 87, according to Lee. The right lane was opened after 30 minutes while the rest of the lanes remained closed for around three hours until about 4:30 a.m.
