On January 28, 2022, it was announced that the Biden’s have added a cat to their family.
The two-year-old, gray-and-white-striped feline is named Willow which was chosen by Dr. Jill Biden in honor of her hometown of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
“A farm cat from Pennsylvania, Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop,” the first lady’s spokesperson Michael LaRosa said, according to USA Today.
“Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden.”
She is reportedly settling in well to her new home and has “her favorite toys, treats, and plenty of room to smell and explore,” LaRosa continued.
Willow marks the first time since the George W. Bush administration that a cat has been in the White House.
What happened to the Biden’s dog, Major?
The Biden’s adopted Major, a rescue, prior to moving into the White House.
After moving in, Major had a hard time adjusting and reportedly bit Secret Service members “every day for a whole week.”
One incident even required an individual to get medical attention.
Following multiple incidents, Major left the White House and now resides with a family friend of the Bidens.
“After consulting with dog trainers, animal behaviorists, and veterinarians, the First Family has decided to follow the experts’ collective recommendation that it would be safest for Major to live in a quieter environment with family friends,” LaRosa said, via People.
“This is not in reaction to any new or specific incident, but rather a decision reached after several months of deliberation as a family and discussions with experts.”
