Released on January 14, 2022, Archive 81 is a horror series developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, based on a podcast of the same name.
Mamoudou Athie as Daniel “Dan” Turner
Born in Mauritania, Mamoudou Athie was raised in Maryland and studied acting at the William Esper Studio in New York.
He got his career start in 2015, appearing in guest roles across various television series and films.
After starring as Jerome in 2019’s Cake, Athie was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.
The character of Dan Turner is described as a “traumatized media archivist” who is hired to restore VHS tapes from the 1990s.
Dina Shihabi as Melody Pendras
Born in Saudi Arabia, Dina Shihabi started taking dance classes as a child and often starred in school plays growing up.
When she was 18, Dina moved to New York, earning a spot in both the Juilliard and NYU Graduate Acting programs.
She began appearing on screen in 2011, and was first cast as a lead in a Netflix show in 2019.
Her character, Melody Pendras, is a grad student during the 1990s who is in the process of recording an archeological documentary.
Evan Jonigkeit as Samuel Spare
A Pennsylvania native, Evan graduated from Neshaminy High School in 2001 and went on to pursue both baseball and theatre at Temple University.
By the year 2011, Evan got his start on Broadway and made his on-screen debut in X-Men: Days of Future Past just three years later.
Evan also has his own production company, the New York-based Rooster Films.
Samuel Spare is the mysterious neighbor of Melody on Archive 81.

Julia Chan as Anabelle Cho
Originally from England, Julia Chan attended college at both the University College in London and Harvard University in Massachusetts.
Chan was a local regular at the American Repertory Theater during her college years, and went on to earn her Master’s from New York’s New School of Drama in 2010.
Since then, Chan has appeared in numerous roles across film and television, even starring alongside Dan Levy as the host of The Great Canadian Baking Show in 2017 and 2018.
Anabelle Cho appears as the best friend and roommate of Melody.
Ariana Neal as Jessica “Jess” Lewis
Originally from Illinois, the up-and-coming Ariana Neal is now Atlanta-based, according to IMDb.
She’s appeared in various commercials and films since she was five years old, and is also musically-trained.
Her character, Jess, is a teenager in the Visser – the apartment complex featured on Archive 81 – who helps out the building’s occupants.
Matt McGorry as Mark Higgins
A New York native, Matt McGorry has been a performer since the age of nine.
He got his start as a bodybuilder and personal trainer writing for Men’s Journal, and is now known for his roles on shows like Orange Is the New Black and How to Get Away with Murder.
On the show, Mark Higgins is the best friend of Dan, and is also a mystery podcaster.
Martin Donovan as Virgil Davenport
Born and raised in California, Martin graduated from Crespi Carmelite High School in Los Angeles before heading to New York City to further pursue his acting career.
After appearing on the Showtime series Weeds alongside Mary-Louise Parker, Donovan was nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
His character, Virgil, is the businessman in charge of hiring Dan to restore the VHS tapes.
