Struggling Man Utd have taken fewer points than Sunderland in 2021 as league table for all 94 English clubs is revealed
STRUGGLING Manchester United managed to take fewer points than Sunderland in 2021.
The Red Devils – led by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick – picked up 75 points from their 41 Premier League games this year at an average of just 1.83 points per game.
Despite the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United could only finish sixth[/caption]United finished second behind Manchester City in 2020-21 but axed the Norwegian in November after a torrid run of form saw the Old Trafford side collect four points from a possible 21.
But they did end the year on a high, beating Burnley 3-1 at home.
And that result confirmed the Clarets were officially the worst of the worst across England’s top four divisions, pipping Newcastle to the unwanted accolade among the 94 teams to play in the Prem and EFL in 2021.
With both in a desperate struggle to retain their top-flight status, a sharp upturn is needed in the new year.
Averaging a feeble 0.87 points per game, Sean Dyche’s side racked up just seven wins from their 39 league matches.
The Magpies – under Steve Bruce before Eddie Howe took over in November – managed eight wins from 42, averaging 0.88 per game.

And unless they buck their ideas up, the Toon Army could be in for a fright with arch-rivals Sunderland riding high as the best team outside the Prem.
Lee Johnson’s Black Cats won 28 of their 53 games and could finally end their League One purgatory at the fourth time of asking.
If they do, and Newcastle continue to stink the place out, a first Tyne-Wear derby in the second tier since 1992 is on the cards.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester City top the 94-team mega-table after notching a record-breaking 36 wins and 110 points wins from their 44 games, at an average of 2.50 per game.
Pep Guardiola’s high-flying Citizens sit well above the rest, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal making up the top four.
After Sunderland in fifth came United in sixth as QPR, West Ham, Oxford and Forest Green Rovers completed the top ten.

Tottenham finished seventh among the Premier League teams – 14th overall – with minnows Sutton United 17th after their promotion to League Two in the summer.
The table made grim reading for football fans in Bristol, though.
Championship side City are 87th on 0.94 PPG – but that is still enough to claim the bragging rights over rivals Rovers.
Joey Barton’s men, relegated from League One last season, managed 45 points from 50 games at 0.90 to place 92nd.
