The Nation's Weather
The Nation's Weather for Friday, December 31, 2021
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
A large zone of contrasting temperatures is forecast to set
up across the nation's midsection today. A reinforcing shot
of frigid air will plunge across the Northwestern and North
Central states as near-record warmth lingers farther south
and east. A storm will strengthen over the southern Plains
as a result of these clashing air masses. On the warm side
of the storm, showers are expected to break out from Texas
to Kentucky, with severe weather possible in this corridor
at night. Stray showers may extend into the Northeast as
well with mild weather persisting. Meanwhile, burying snow
is anticipated on the cold side of the storm in the
mountains of the Four Corners region as showers dampen the
deserts of Arizona and New Mexico. Lingering cold with snow
showers will keep roads slick in the Northwest.
