It was followed by two feature films, in 2008 and 2010.
Now, 11 years since their last outing there are key questions on fans’ minds.
Deputy TV Editor FELICITY CROSS tackles eight of them.

ARE CHARLOTTE AND HARRY STILL TOGETHER?
SHE got her happy ever after with Harry Goldenblatt, but we last saw Charlotte struggling with marriage and being a mum to two kids. She became convinced
Harry was sleeping with their nanny and fled to Abu Dhabi with Carrie and Co.
The trailers suggest the Goldenblatts are still happily married, with a shot of them watching teenage daughter Lily at a ballet performance[/caption]Charlotte then began using Carrie’s old apartment to take a break from family life.

The couple split, went through counselling and reunited at the end of the movie.

In one shot in the new trailer, Steve bumps into Miranda while she appears to be on a date with a female character — suggesting she may have a queer plotline in the revival.
ANY OLD CHARACTERS? ANY NEWBIES?
MARIO CANTONE returns as Anthony Marentino following his marriage to Stanford Blatch in the second film.
Julie Halston is also back as socialite Bitsy Von Muffling.
Documentary maker Lisa Todd Wexley will be played by Nicole Ari Parker[/caption] Sara Ramirez will play non-binary comedian Che[/caption]But bosses seem to be hoping to appeal to a newer, younger audience too by adding a number of hip and trendy characters.
Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez will play non-binary comedian Che, who hosts a podcast with Carrie.
The central character’s updated circle of friends also seems to include wealthy estate agent Seema, documentary maker Lisa Todd Wexley, played by Nicole Ari Parker and Colombia professor Dr Nye Wallace.
DO ANY OF CARRIE’S OLD FLAMES RETURN?
MANY fans felt Carrie should have ended up with Aiden Shaw, the gentle carpenter who she cheated on with Mr Big.
The couple were even engaged in season four.
Many fans felt Carrie should have ended up with Aiden Shaw, the gentle carpenter who she cheated on with Mr Big[/caption]So it’s a juicy surprise to hear Aiden actor John Corbett is in “quite a few episodes” of the reboot.
It would be a full- circle moment if Carrie chose to revive this old love triangle by cheating on Big this time.
ARE CARRIE AND MR BIG STILL TOGETHER?
YOU could argue that a relationship this tumultuous would never last in the real world.
But Carrie and Big seem to still be married.
This wouldn’t be Sex And The City without a love triangle[/caption]In the trailer we see them kiss in a lavish kitchen, while elsewhere Mr Big, played by Chris Noth, pedals on a Peloton bike.
Paparazzi snapped the stars filming together in Paris and New York
But photographers also saw SJP filming scenes where Carrie smooches another man.
There’s no clue if the man, played by actor Jon Tenney, will steal Carrie from Big.

DOES CARRIE’S FASHION BECOME TAMER IN HER 50S?
SHE first burst on to screens in a skin-tight leotard, sky-high heels and white tutu — and immediately became a fashion icon.
But many have wondered if Carrie will still be serving looks 20 years on.

Paparazzi shots have revealed some of the new outfits.
A gingham Batsheva dress — worn with what appears to be fuchsia washing-up gloves — was roasted by fashionistas.
But a powder blue Norma Kamali frock got the thumbs up.
HOW WILL THEY HANDLE STANFORD BLATCH ACTOR’S DEATH?
AS Carrie’s best friend Stanford, Willie had been filming scenes for the reboot right up until his death of pancreatic cancer in September at the age of 57.
Fans have therefore speculated the character may move out the city with husband Anthony Marantino for a quieter life[/caption]In an interview with the New York Times, showrunner Michael Patrick King explained that his death was not written into the show, “Because it wasn’t charming and I knew that the audience would know”.
He added that they had been unable to film everything they wanted with Stanford — who was due to be involved in a huge storyline.

HOW IS KIM CATTRALL’S ABSENCE HANDLED?
THE actress declined to return as Samantha Jones following a real-life row with Sarah Jessica Parker.
But bosses have not killed her character off and have instead suggested she relocated to London after falling out with Carrie.

“The friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”
But the show will dangle a juicy hint that Samantha may return.
At the end of And Just Like That, viewers will see Carrie extend an olive branch and rekindle the friendship.
That would leave the door open for Kim to return in a second series.
