The Coronation Street spin-off soap bosses shut down over jaw-dropping demonic twist
A CORONATION Street spin-off written by Russell T Davies was shut down by soap bosses due to its jaw-dropping demonic twist.
The legendary screenwriter revealed all about the soap series that was due to focus on Sally Webster which was due to air in the 1990s.
Russell T Davies wrote 12 scripts for the spin-off of the soap[/caption]Russell, 58, who worked on Corrie early in his career, took to Instagram to spill the beans on the spin-off series that nearly made it to production.
Mario’s was due to focus on iconic character Sally Webster, played by Sally Dynevor, and her on-screen husband Kevin, played by Michael Le Vell.
The screenwriter explained that the show – which he wrote 12 scripts for – was due to air five days a week on ITV before the broadcaster turned it down.
He revealed that Sally and Kevin were due to “inherit some money” and move away from Manchester to open a garage down south.
They would become neighbours with a boozy housewife and lived around the corner from a pizzeria, called Mario’s, owned by an Italian family.
“They’d inherit some money, so Kevin opened a garage down south,” Russell wrote to his Instagram fans about the soap.
“They had neighbours like a boozy housewife in her negligee (sorry, it was the 90s), a Mrs Mangel-type woman and, on the corner, a pizzeria, Mario’s, with a boisterous Italian family.”
Russell added that he wrote “12 scripts or so” for the soap: “I think Kevin & Sally were called Paul and Linda so no one knew our secret.”
“But ITV said no. Hey ho. We marched onwards! Next!” he concluded the post.
