Fox News guest: Cinematographer's death is 'karma' for Alec Baldwin criticizing police
A Fox News guest who crusades against so-called "woke" culture this week said that the accidental killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was "karma" punishing actor Alec Baldwin because he criticized police shootings.
"I'm really sorry about what happened," Vivek Ramaswamy, author of "Woke, Inc.", told Fox News host Harris Faulkner. "There's a couple of layers of irony here. People leaving the set to protest unsafe working conditions, creating perhaps the most unsafe working condition of all. Somebody was shot on that set."
"Alec Baldwin was the person who a few years ago tweeted, when a police officer accidentally shot somebody or unintentionally shot somebody, he was the first person who tweeted, 'I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone,'" he continued. "And then here we are years later down to the day. It's really chilling when you look at the layer of irony and the layer of karma in some sense here."
Ramaswamy insisted that he wanted "to be respectful of a difficult situation" because "facts are still coming out."
"But I think it's a wake-up call to say we have to have accountability," he added. "We can't have a casual culture where we simply, in the name of protesting unsafe working conditions, don't have people on the set to actually look after real safety issues. And in some ways, it's just this microcosm and this prism of looking at some cultural issues that hopefully it's an occasion to look ourselves in the mirror more generally to make sure things like this don't happen again."
