Adin Hill shines in Sharks’ preseason victory over Vegas Golden Knights
Adin Hill made 21 saves and Sasha Chmelevski, Jasper Weatherby, Adam Raska and Logan Couture all scored in the San Jose Sharks’ 4-2 split-squad win over the host Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena.
Hill, making his first appearance in a Sharks uniform after he was acquired from the Arizona Coyotes in July, stopped 16 of 17 shots in the first two periods.
After Chmelevski opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 15:29 mark of the first period, finishing a pretty passing sequence from Scott Reedy and William Eklund, Weatherby and Raska both scored in the second for a 3-1 Sharks lead.
Couture added a power-play goal with 4:04 to go in the third period. Weatherby and Brent Burns had the assists.
Weatherby, the rookie roster hopeful who was on a line with Andrew Cogliano and Matt Nieto, scored an unassisted goal 62 seconds after intermission. Raska then took a nice pass from Jeffrey Viel and beat Golden Knights goalie Logan Thompson at the 7:31 mark of the second.
That was enough offense for Hill, who is in something of a competition with James Reimer to be the Sharks’ No. 1 goalie at the start of the season.
Sharks general manager overhauled his team’s goaltending this summer, with the acquisition of Hill being the centerpiece move of San Jose’s offseason. The Sharks traded goalie Josef Korenar and their 2022 second-round pick to the Coyotes for Hill and a 2022 seventh rounder.
The Sharks lost 6-3 to the Anaheim Ducks in their other split-squad game Sunday. San Jose’s exhibition schedule continues at home on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings.
