BOOMERS FORCE GAME FIVE FOR FRONTIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Schaumburg Boomers defeated the Washington Wild Things 3-1 in game four in the Frontier League Championship Series to force a decisive fifth game on Sunday. They jumped out to an early lead in the third when Quincy Nieporte hit a two-run single to make it 2-0. In the fifth, Angelo Gumbs connected on an RBI double to make it 3-0 Boomers. The Wild Things scored their lone run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Nick Ward to bring the final score to 3-1. Schaumburg starter Erik Martinez allowed just one run in seven innings of work, striking out eight in the Boomers win. Darrell Thompson earned his first save of the playoffs. Meanwhile, for the Wild Things, Rob Whalen allowed the three runs over seven innings but struck out nine in the loss.
With the Boomers win, the Frontier League Championship is tied at 2-2 and will now be decided by a winner-take-all game five starting at 5:35 p.m. ET Sunday in Washington. This exciting conclusion to the Frontier League season can be viewed on FrontierLeagueTV.com.
