[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer Falcons, Eagles Play to 2-2 Draw
WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons settled for a 2-2 tie with the Avila University Eagles in KCAC action tonight (Sept. 25) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The Falcons appeared to be in good shape when Christian Raffinengo (SO/Wichita, Kan. ) scored the go-ahead goal by drilling a shot into the right corner of the net with 16 minutes remaining.
But the Eagles benefited from a hand ball in the box that led to a successful penalty kick attempt by Jaime Gomez to tie the score with 6:30 left.
The Falcons outshot the Eagles 5-2 in the two overtime sessions, but couldn't produce the game-winning tally in the extra 20 minutes.
Following a scoreless opening half, Futo Kubo fired in a loose ball from the left to put the Falcons on top less than three minutes into the second stanza.
But Avila evened the score when Sam Kanda turned and blasted in a shot from around 25 yards out in the 57th minute.
The Falcons outshot the Eagles 22-8 for the match, with a 6-4 edge in shots-on-goal. Juan Zamora (JR/LaBelle, Florida) and Isaiah Castillo each had a match-high five shots for Friends.
Jasper McLeod (SR/Princes Town, Trinidad &Tobago) made saves for the Falcons (4-2-1, 2-0-1 KCAC), while Naguib Nassir stopped four shots for the Eagles (1-5-1, 0-2-1 KCAC).
The Falcons will remain at home and host Bethel College Wednesday evening (Sept. 29) at 6 pm.
