[Women's Soccer] Four Falcons score in 4-1 Win Over Avila
WICHITA, Kan. — The Friends University Falcons offense exploded for four first-half goals on Saturday (Sept. 25) to knock off the Avila University Eagles 4-1 on Senior Night at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The barrage began in the ninth minute when Madison Edwards (SR/Wichita, Kan. ) took a pass from Yajaira Mendoza (SR/Arlington, Texas) from 30 yards out and sprinted past the defense before firing a shot past the goalkeeper into the back corner of the net.
Yairee Perez (FR/Arlington, Texas) extended the Falcons lead, finding the back of the net in the 16th minute. Then Maritza Cabrales (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) joined the party six minutes later, taking a through ball from Elyssa Salazar (JR/Garden City, Kan.), and finished it off to give Friends the 3-0 advantage.
The Falcons' final goal of the half came on a penalty kick by Keily Larosee (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.), who netted her seventh goal in eight games this season.
Megan Nugent cut into the lead less than four minutes into the second half to conclude the scoring.
The Falcons (4-3-1, 2-0-1 KCAC) outshot Avila 16-5 and 10-2 on-goal, led by Edwards, Cabrales, and Hailey Stiverson (SO/Wichita, Kan. ), who each had two shots-on-goal.
Maria Smyth (SO/Fairplay, S.C.) got the call in goal for the Falcons, stopping two shots, while Madison Baker made five saves for the Eagles (2-6-1, 1-1-1 KCAC).
The Falcons remain at home for a midweek matchup with Bethel College on Wednesday (Sept. 29), with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
