Moontower Comedy Festival forms partnership with 'Just For Laughs,' new festival in April
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin's Moontower Comedy Festival is combining forces with a Canadian comedy giant in order to help make Austin "the mecca for comedy in the United States."
Paramount Theater CEO Jim Ritts said Friday the festival has formed a partnership with "Just For Laughs," the world's largest international comedy festival, to create the Moontower Just For Laughs Austin Comedy Festival in April.
The festival will move from four days to "at least 10 days," Ritts said.
"This is a huge step for Austin and for our local community of comics," Ritts said.
Bruce Hill, president of Just For Laughs, said the partnership just made sense.
"I couldn't be happier to work with Moontower and grow this event," Hill said. "We all want to produce first-class events, and we all care about talent. At the end of the day, this is an opportunity for Just For Laughs to grow our footprint in the United States."
The festival was created in 2011 by Paramount and the Cap City Comedy Club.
