Teenager arrested after girl, 15, was ‘pulled into the sea and raped’ at beach
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after it was reported over the summer that a girl was pulled into the sea and raped at a beach.
The teenager, from Warwickshire, was arrested on suspicion of rape at Bournemouth beach on July 18.
There was a public appeal and an e-fit was shown on BBC One’s Crimewatch Live in a bid to find the attacker of the girl, who was 15.
The victim reported she was with her friends playing with a ball when it landed in front of a teenage boy.
He threw it back then started talking to the schoolgirl, and then allegedly pulled her out into deeper water.
Although there were crowds of people on the beach due to the busy summer season, the young man reportedly raped the girl under cover of water.
He apparently told his victim he was aged 17 and had travelled to the Dorset coast from Birmingham.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: ‘Detectives investigating the reported rape of a teenage girl at Bournemouth beach have arrested a teenage boy.
‘It was reported that at around 4pm on Sunday, July 18 a 15-year-old girl was with friends in the sea near to the Oceanarium when she began talking to a teenage boy.
‘The boy allegedly pulled her out deeper into the sea, where he is reported to have raped her.
‘Detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) launched an investigation into the incident.
‘Following enquiries, including an e-fit appeal and televised appeal on BBC One show Crimewatch Live, a 17-year-old boy from the Warwickshire area has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is assisting detectives with their enquiries.’
Detective inspector Wayne Seymour previously said police had ‘obtained forensic evidence’ that means ‘we will be able to eliminate anyone who was not involved from our enquiries.’
