A rugby club spokesperson said: “We reiterate that no one should head to the club until we have our current situation sorted and our guests have left.”
The travellers had been moved on from other illegal stopping spots in East Cambridgeshire before they showed up at the rugby club, the Ely Standard reported.
The caravans arrived at the club on Tuesday, and all training sessions at the ground have had to be cancelled.
Ely Rugby Club is working with Cambridgeshire police and East Cambridgeshire District Council to clear the field.

A local claimed that the travellers had left rubbish behind in other areas nearby, according to the Standard.
They said: “They have left Waterbeach and Stretham a right mess with human poop and dog poop and broken children play parks.
“I’m all for them being about but respect where they are staying.”
