Heyman: Mets Interested In Kris Bryant and Zach Davies Package
Updated Report: July 29, 20:52
Jon Heyman reports the Mets have been talking to the Cubs specifically about a deal involving Kris Bryant and Zach Davies.
Davies was traded from the Padres to the Cubs in the offseason in the Yu Darvish deal. The 28-year-old has a 4.39 ERA in 108.2 innings (22 starts) this season. Davies, like Bryant, is a free agent in 2022.

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is fast approaching on Friday and teams are beginning to make moves. The Mets are in talks, but haven’t made any moves as of yet. However, that could change in the next day or so.
As reported by SNY, the New York Mets continue to remain to be one of the teams in talks with Kris Bryant and Javier Baez of the Cubs. Andy Martino of SNY elaborated on the talks, saying that a team in talks with the Cubs believes “they do something big soon.” Some sources believe there could be a deal for Bryant and possibly Baez as well by the end of the night Thursday night.
Taylor McGregor, field reporter for the Cubs tweeted out Thursday evening that Bryant remained in the dugout at the end of the game and appeared to be “taking in Wrigley,” in what may be his goodbye to Chicago and the Cubs.
SNY also reported that the Mets have checked in with Twins pitcher Jose Berrios, but as Any Martino reported, the Mets believe his price tag is currently too high. Should the Mets go after Berrios, Michael Mayer of Metsmerized reported that shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio could be a trade prospect for Berrios.
With the trade deadline coming Friday night, some of these prospective trades could happen soon.
