Tough morning on the course for Greystones junior boys
Hard luck to the Irish Junior Foursomes team who lost out to local rivals, Delgany this morning. The competition is handicapped and we were giving 7 shots at home and 3 away.
It looked to be very much going our way after the first eight holes with our home match of Dylan Holmes & Jamie Anderson in a commanding lead of 6 up and the away team of George O’Brien & Jack McGovern at3 up. As we all know however team match-play golf can turn in a flash and so it happened this morning.
All square after 15 our pair in Delgany lost 16, 17 & 18 to finish 3 down. To be fair they had absolutely no luck on the day.
All eyes turned to home where a win on 16 brought the match to 3 up for Greystones however we were giving a shot on 17. Delgany won this hole with a par which included an unbelievable Up & Down from the back of the green. Meanwhile in Dalgany, George & Jack were on the putting green in case of a play off depended on a win on 18 for Dylan & Jamie. On 18, Delgany were in trouble off the tee and hit a provisional while Greystones split the fairway. Delgany found their first ball and were able to hack it out to the fairway and their next shot was to 6 feet which Paddy McGovern duly held for the visitors to give them a win by 1 hole.
Hard luck to all involved.
