With many companies looking for new ways to combine work in and out of the office, pandemic has accelerated the rising trend of firms embracing remote work..

British fintech company Revolut has launched a program that allows its entire staff force, comprised of more than 2,000 employees, to work from abroad for up to two months a year.

This work program is part of a strategy towards more flexible working.

"We started in February 2021 when we launched our innovative RevLabs strategy," Vice President of People at Revolut Jim MacDougall told Insider. "Employees wanted to be able to choose when to work from home and when to go to the office."

"We are in the process of redesigning all of our offices into flexible collaborative spaces, and our employees will be able to choose where they work from and when they want to work." he added. "Our new RevLabs will have approximately 70% of their space dedicated to collaboration and co-working to respond to the employee feedback."

Some of its employees have already decided to join this project.

Lucía Marín, a young Spaniard working in the Regulatory Compliance team in the United States, has done just this.

An internal survey found that most employees were looking for a combination of being able to come into the office.

"My advice would be to be ready to get stuck in," Marín said."For an international working abroad, this policy is an important factor that makes the company stand out. No more traveling on busy dates to rush to see the family in Spain. No more of the emotional stress that comes with not being able to see your loved ones for celebrations or at times when they need your support because you have no holiday days left. I won't miss any more of my friends' weddings."

When asked why they weren't adopting a fully remote working policy, MacDougall pointed out that an internal survey conducted at the end of last year found that employees had adapted very well to remote working, but that they were also looking for a combination of being able to come into the office.

"We found our employees had adapted very well to remote working, with 98% saying so and 90% of team leaders saying productivity hadn't been affected," he explained.

"But 65% also said they wanted the freedom to come into the office whenever they wanted," he went on, "so we've built a framework that creates a perfect environment for collaboration when they need it, while fully supporting employees who prefer to stay at home."

"There will be some fully remote positions available," he continued, "but we believe they will be limited in number and that the flexible model is a better fit for us as an organization and for Revoluters around the world."
